More Information About Salient's 3D Interactive Education Tool for Tourniquetless TKA

Many orthopaedic surgeons are adopting the tourniquetless technique for total knee arthroplasty. Salient Surgical’s AQUAMANTYS® System has been clinically shown to reduce blood loss during knee surgery,1,2 making it a helpful tool for surgeons who have adopted the tourniquetless technique.

Our 3D education tool is designed to help surgeons learn more about the tourniquetless technique and the role of the AQUAMANTYS System during the procedure. Since TKA treatment areas are the same with and without a tourniquet, it may be helpful to surgeons trained in either technique.

The tool consists of four components:
  • 3D interactive animation
  • Surgical video
  • Overview of the AQUAMANTYS System
  • Online assessment tool

Using the tool

Interactive Animation. The sharp anatomical clarity of the 3D interactive module is well suited to reviewing areas to treat and areas to avoid. Use the following instructions to highlight and remove anatomical structures and to reorient the model to more effectively visualize areas of interest.
  • Reorient the model by clicking the model and holding the cursor or by using the onscreen joystick
  • Move the model horizontally and vertically by clicking on the arrows around the onscreen joystick.
  • Remove anatomy by first clicking the structure (highlights blue), then clicking “Hide.”
  • Make anatomy transparent by first clicking the structure, then clicking “Transparent.”
  • 3D interactive animation
  • Restore hidden anatomy by clicking “Show All.”
  • Restore original model orientation by clicking “Reset View.”
  • Restore hidden anatomy and model orientation by clicking “Reset All.”
Tips:
  • After highlighting a structure, its name will appear in the upper left hand corner of the screen.
  • Pause the animation before manipulating the model; press play once you are ready to proceed.
Surgical Video. This module is meant to help in showing technique and treatment areas.

Tips:
  • Switch back and forth between Surgical Video and Interactive Animation modules to tailor your experience with the tool.
